The series of events and instances of extreme negative attitudes towards the work of organisations and experts in the refugee and migrant sector in 2023, 2024 and 2025 has given impetus to a general desire for a response. On 28 June, our organisation – Legal Aid Centre – Voice in Bulgaria, together with 30 other international organisations working across the European Union, launched the WHERE WE RISE campaign.
At its core, WHERE WE RISE is an information campaign about the need for continued support to people on the move – migrants and refugees, displaced persons, the undocumented – who are dependent on national legislations until their residence is legalised, and therefore access to a dignified existence with corresponding rights and obligations. Support is needed because the capacity of national governments, including with regard to border control mechanisms, integration measures, the provision of timely health, psychological, legal services, is too often based on cooperation between civil society organisations on the ground and the administrations concerned. The waves of refugees and migrants, the unresolved cases of the undocumented, are increasingly intense and adequate, decisive, flexible and workable measures must be able to be taken according to the legislative frameworks and the specific human situations. The Campaign aims at restoring a humane attitude in host societies towards migrants and refugees, which will help their integration and motivation to comply with legislative frameworks and obligations.
WHERE WE RISE is also a fundraising campaign for all the services that the united organizations provide, namely – legal, social, health, psychological, educational and others. On the campaign page you can see each of the established organisations, their activities and the transparency of the funds raised. In the coming months, a series of posts will be published about the organizations’ services and the result they have.
