The legal and economic analysis “Strengthening the rights of migrant workers in Bulgaria” by the Center for Legal Aid “Voice in Bulgaria” and the Institute for Market Economics was presented on 28 June 2024 by Adv. Diana Radoslavova in Bulgaria ON AIR.
The topic of migration as a response to the demographic and economic needs of the Bulgarian labour market is of particular interest, especially in the height of the summer season, when the needs increase. It is time to look at migration as one of the responses to these needs and to manage our national migration policy in a balanced way so that the potential of migrants is exploited. Alongside this, we will increasingly have to talk about migrant workers’ labour rights, their protection and monitoring, especially as it relates to the most vulnerable of them. We will need to fill the gaps in our legislation regarding integrated undocumented persons and to further liberalise and enrich the legal routes to access to work and residence. The role of the state is important here, but no less so for trade unions and employers.
The analysis was produced as part of a joint programme on labour rights and labour migration of the Platform for International Cooperation on Undocumented Migrants (PICUM) and the Robert Bosch Stiftung, Germany.
